Adobo

Peru_10_2014_3933We made a friend at a bar in Arequipa, Peru, and the next day he picked us up from our hostel and took us to his neighborhood to try adobo – a traditional breakfast of pork soup. The restaurant appeared to be out of someone’s dining room. I could get used to this savory goodness for breakfast every day.

Maracuya Sour

Swordfish Ceviche in Passionfruit Juice

Peru_10_2014_4085When ceviche was first “invented” about 2000 years ago, it was marinated in passionfruit juice instead of lime juice. The passionfruit juice really brought out the flavor of the soft and tender swordfish, and the seaweed was so fresh it had small snail shells caught up in it. Absolutely wonderful dish from Soccollay in Arequipa, Peru.

Quinoa Soup

Peru_10_2014_2559

This is probably the best soup I’ve ever had. I need to learn how to make this… It definitely involved chicken broth.

Taquile Island, Lake Titicaca, Peru

Trout Ceviche

Peru_10_2014_1445Trout ceviche, served with corn. Obviously. Because corn in Peru is like water in the U.S. Served with every meal. This meal made even better by a band playing Quechua music and a gorgeous view of Cusco’s Plaza de Armas to the right. From Bagdad Cafe.
