Stewed Meat and Fries

DSC_0325Some pretty awesome spiced and stewed meat in a tomatoey sauce over handmade fries. This was the only good thing at this random crappy restaurant I stopped at in Sevilla, Spain. It was much better than their paella (I know when you’re using yellow food coloring instead of saffron, sirs!)

Jamón Ibérico de Bellota

DSC_0055

My stepbrother, who is a professional meat and cheese connoisseur, gave me five different types of cured Spanish jamón as a graduation present (he clearly knows me really well!). After consuming the entire package of this perfection, I decided to google it. I discovered that it’s one of the most expensive meats in the world ($87/lbs) – and I was not surprised. Easily one of the most amazing things I’ve ever eaten.

Why is it so expensive? Well, according to this site, the pigs are raised free-range in western Spain, where they eat acorns, wild mushrooms, herbs, and grasses, yielding meat that’s richly flavored and low in saturated fat. The ham is then cured for a minimum of two years before reaching the market.

Still cooking

Almost done!

The Sapporo Beer Garden in Sapporo, Japan has several restaurants offering this dish that the Japanese find so ridiculous that they named it after Genghis Khan. What is it? Just lots of meat that you cook yourself. Basically a Mongolian Barbeque. As an American, I think it’s funny that the amount of meat they serve is considered ridiculous. (There was a little more than can be seen in this photo, but not much.) I like my meat, damnit! Ridiculous, indeed.

It was pretty damn good though, that’s worth mentioning.

Shawarma

That succulent meat will be shaved down, grilled, and thrown into a sandwich with whatever you want – pickles, tahini, hummus, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, etc. I want some right now. Jerusalem, Israel.

Meat

I could never be a vegetarian. I’m a strict carnivore. Tai’an, China

Ribs

I’m a hardcore carnivore, so this makes me salivate more than Pavlov’s dogs. This cradle of meaty goodness was found in Tai’an, China.
