I went to Catoctin Creek Distillery in Purcellville, Virginia this weekend for a tasting. This is the “standard flight” – moonshine, aged whiskey, and gin. The gin was pretty damn top notch.

I don’t usually order General Tso’s Chicken, but I had to get something stereotypically “Chinese” (as in “Chinese American”) for Jewish Christmas! Much better than a Christmas ham.

Yeah. I had two orders of these in addition to a BBQ pork bun. Don’t judge me. Where I live, this would cost $6, but in this college town, it was only $3.50. So I like had to, right?

I could hear the music as I rounded the corner. Before I could see where it was coming from, I saw the two most important words in the English language: “Free Popsicles.”
Pleasant Pops (a local DC coffee and popsicle joint) turned two today, and they celebrated by giving out free creamy vanilla popsicles. Happy Birthday!

When I saw “Migas” on the menu at The Diner in Adams Morgan (Washington, DC), I had no idea what it was. But all the ingredients looked awesome: Fried corn tortillas, eggs, corn, chorizo, salsa, sour cream, avocado. So what is it? It’s essentially an unparalleled gift to mankind handcrafted by God herself in the form of a Tex-Mex breakfast scramble. And The Diner does it damn good. All of the thumbs up.

There’s a famous (to foodies) Chinese restaurant in Washington, DC called Panda Gourmet. It sounds like some sort of tacky crappy restaurant right? Like Panda Express? Further adding to your judgment of its cover, it’s attached to a Days Inn. It couldn’t be good right?
Wrong.
It’s authentic and delicious menu makes it one of the best places in the DC area to gorge on the glory that is Sichuan cuisine. I had high hopes that it would become my new favorite Chinese restaurant, but, while still great, it does not compare to Great Wall Sichuan House or Szechuan Pavilion.
My favorite thing that we ordered (and we ordered a lot) was the very last thing to come out. It was this fragrant and shamelessly flavorful Lamb with Cumin.
It instantly transported me back to the Guangzhou (which is not in Sichuan) waterfront, where I devoured several cumin-y lamb skewers in mere seconds. Highly recommend if just for this dish.

Eating deep dish pizza from Lou Malnati’s, on the beach, at sunset was probably one of my favorite moments in Chicago. Minutes after I finished, I was going to walk up the shoreline to Lincoln Park and over to my hostel, but the sky opened up and I got drenched running to a cab. At least my pizza didn’t get soggy.
And I know I’ll probably get death threats for this, but New York style pizza is definitely better #sorrynotsorry
